Peahen.....?

Yesterday I heard this really funny noise coming from the back yard. I looked, couldn't see anything through the window, heard it again, had another look and there it was, sitting on our back fence! A pretty "Peahen"! I couldn't believe it. I yelled out to the boys to come and have a look whilst I grabbed the camera. I really wanted to get a great picture but this was the best one (er hem...through our very grubby window).
I chased it around the backyard in nothing but my bathers (as we were getting ready to go to the pool), and trying to avoid being bitten by our VERY ferocious "Jumping Jack" ants. It would have looked so funny to any strangers walking past but I didn't care - all I wanted was a great photo. It didn't happen. Oh, well it was fun seeing it in the backyard anyway!! Doesn't happen everyday! I wonder where it came from?

We are heading off to Dookie for the long weekend (Australia Day on Monday) to visit my Grandmother. We don't get to see her as often as we would like as she is 4 hours away. We have a friend who had a baby 4 months ago in Bendigo (half way between here and Dookie) so we thought we'd call in and visit them on the way home. When she phoned to arrange a catch up on Monday I panicked because I hadn't done the quilt I had in mind for the baby. So in my panic last night I cut out the squares and started sewing......

I managed to get it nearly finished today (including more Free Motion Quilting) - all but the binding sewn down. I shall do that in the car on the way. It's a very simple design just 4 1/2" squares (7 X 9) with a 4 1/2" strip around the sides. They love dogs which is why I chose the "Puppy Love" fabric. The spots were an end of bolt sale at Spotlight for $3.oo for about 4 meters!

Tomorrow, I am turning one year older but I am going to.........

I hope everyone has a wonderful Australia Day weekend. We live in the best country in the world don't we!

Happy Birthday for tomorrow Kathryn! We have a peacock that roams our area of Ballarat and calls out all summer. He has been around for the past 11 years that we have owned our house. How strange!

Happy Birthday for tomorrow!! and don't worry about getting older, remember some people never have that opportunity. The peahen, so cool! We have them (and males) roaming the zoo and botanical gardens. I collect the males beautiful feathers! The quilt looks fantastic! I'm sure they're going to love it! I love Australia, and am very proud to have been born here. I mean, can you imagine growing up any where else? It just doesn't seem right not to have vegemite on toast every morning and to sing "Advance Australia Fair" at school. No Ashes or Bathurst or Sydney to Hobart race? Nuh. Just isn't right. We really do live in the best country in the World!!

when she was little Princess Curly-Wurly and I watched a pure white peacock walk up our drive and strut around the garden for about 20 mins before he flew up onto the building next door. We watched him for another 20 mins or so and then he just flew away! Very odd.

Happy Birthday Kathryn!!! I'm off to spotty - I got the thing in the mail today about the bolt sale. See you really are a quilter now to be able to whip one up. My sister got a peacock for christmas, but how strange for one to be walking around your yard. It must live close by.

How funny. I came across a peacock on a country road far from any houses the other day. I'd love to have brought him home but I hear they cause a bit of noise and mischief.
Enjoy your weekend in Dookie. I spent the first few years of my life living there, Dad used to lecture at the college. Dookie church was my second choice for wedding venue if my first choice was unavailable. I like that part of the world.

My husband loved his trips to Australia ... he'd have moved their altho I refused to leave USA.

I see you are a quilter. We have over 1,200 vintage feedsacks & a website ~ www.feedsack.biz. Pop in & take a peek.

May I ask you to help us bring the word to all about a special cause ~

This little girl needs help, I need to reach out to the world to help me help her. I am working with a non-profit organization to assist Scarlett, 2 yrs. old.
