More quilts, a disaster and hubs blog.

I decided to use up some more of my fabric from the shelves. Instead of leaving it to gather dust and fade, it was time to put it to good use.
The peaches and cream fabrics I have had for about 2 years which, to me, is shameful. Why buy it, if you are not going to use it straight away....well, I tend to buy fabric when it is on sale, so I stock up, then it sits....until I get around to it.
There is another pink and green quilt too. This one is more cot size.
Pinned and ready to be quilted.
Now, this was the disaster. I had just about finished this cushion when I ruined it!
I overlocked the seams, turned it right side out, put the insert in, then realised I had caught some of the backing in the overlocking....."Oh, cr*p" I said, quickly reaching for the quick unpick all the while hoping that I had not caught the fabric in the cuttter of the overlocker..... but it was not to be - and now I had a bloomin' great big hole in the backing.
POOP.
And because the zipper was along the bottom, it was going to take way to long to unpick everything, and replace the backing, so I just thought it would be quicker to make another one. It has been cruedly fixed and will be destined to live on one of my shelves.
It looks fine from the front. (But not the back!)

Now, for some great news....Hubs has started his blog about building our house.
Pop on over and say "Hi Greg!".
Make sure you bookmark it so you can follow us on our house building journey.

I'm a huge fan of quilt making. I too made a lovely one today. I love using up every inch of fabric and quilts are one sure fire way to handle that.

Nothing at all wrong with "collecting" as I like to call it, Fabric for a rainy day!! It WILL be put to use at some point. No guilt.

I also like your pillow. But, i'm just OCD enough to sit and rip out every stitch and redo. Drives me family nuts but then they give me the "looks nice hun/mom". :)

lovely as always.

Take out the scissors, cut off the front, and make a smaller cushion using that; or, applique, applique, applique the back to make a double sided cushion.
That's my 2 cwents worth anyway.
The quilts are gorgeous!
Off now to Greg's site...

Yikes....don't you hate that?
I've always been a bit scared of my overlocker - it eats things!! Of course that has nothing to do with my sewing skills...LOL.

Looking forward to watching the building of your house.
Hugs,
Kerryanne

Your quilt and cushion all turned out lovely despite the disaster...which I cannot tell on the one you showed. Is that the new one you made? Or is that the old "disaster" one? I can't tell. Congratulations on your house being built and your hubby's new blog! :)

We all have our 'Poop' sewing moments, nothing like a bit of reverse sewing (unpicking) to test your patience. Keep Smiling :)

That cushion is lovely!! I would have appliqued a pretty, shabby heart over the bit on the back, as a touch of love!!!

You are really good to be using what fabric that you have, I have a couple of really pretty fabrics that I just can't bear to cut up! Sad I know but you get that!!!
The quilts look really PRETTY, you clever woman.
What a pity about that cushion, I have done exactly the same, how frustrating (or infuriating!). I think it will look fab in your new home, you just have to find the right place. Just think of it as truly shabby chic, beauty with imperfections.

P.S: I just left a message on Gregs blog, cant wait to follow the building process.

I used to make quilts years ago & my daughter used to work for a Quilting Magazine Company, Chitra Publications until they ceased operations. So.... Quilts were part of our lives & I can appreciate the work in yours. Lovely!!
