Remorse.....

"We are sorry Mummy".
"Thank you boys"
We did not go to the party, they tidied the lounge, their bedroom, dried the dishes, set the table, packed their school bags and are going without a treat after dinner for a week.
Enough said.

Well tahts what discipline is all about.
Learning from the mistake and moving on.
Give them a Hug and let them know all is well again.
Ans tick to your guns about after dinner goodies too!

hey kathryn...was too scared to leave a comment on what to do with the boys...(having had the 2 boys myself)..
BUT that is a great outcome...

ONE does have to follow through with threats re cleaning/no party etc etc...If not followed through..they end up calling your bluff..
SOOO well done...my advice from a mother of two boys close together in age...(all good now in their 20's)..
Be firm...DO as you SAY you will do re sanctions etc...& they will end up being BUTTER in your mouth!!

It sounds like you have it all sorted. Totally not easy being a parent except that they are ours and so precious. Cherrie

Aw Kathryn how lovely. Good though that you followed through as now they understand a bit more that life does have consequences. Well done you, its a hard lesson for them but they will be better for it.

Good on you for sticking to your plan of no party....I know first hand at what it is like to have to pull the plug on an eagarly anticipated outing because of behavour problems. My eldest daughter is just about to turn 11 & she has been bannned from using her Nintendo DS for 5 weeks because of bad behavior & a wicked mouth at the moment, each time we have an issue I now say 'Would you like to go for 6 weeks with out your DS?' & the attitude drops so quickly it's not funny. Hang in there, your a great mum doing a great job, never doubt yourself.

Good on you for following through!!! It makes them think twice next time before being naughty!!! I am big on discipline and my kids know i am serious!!! You feel awful though, but in the long run you will be the one with the nice well behaved kids!!! What sweet kids though!!!!

Well done for not weakening! It's hard to be strong, but worth it in the long run (my one and only is 29 now but boy did we have some battles - and we're good friends now!) Good luck with the move.
