Slippers.....

I recently purchased Tonne Finnager's "Sew Pretty Homestyle" book from here and I absolutely love it. There are so many pretty projects to make and these house slippers caught my eye.
So, yesterday I decided to give them a go.....
I used Cath Kidston's "Spray Flowers" cotton duck fabric and wool felt for the inner.
The pattern said it would fit a size 39 (which is what I am) but I made it slightly bigger and they are (only) just perfect.
Also, I should have read the instructions more carefully as the inner was supposed to have a concealed seam, but, being the "bull at a gate" as I am, I rushed into it and now have exposed seams!
Next time I will make them slightly bigger again and read the instructions a bit better!

My creative space.....

Well, it hasn't been very creative around here this week. I have been flipping from project to project without actually getting anything done!
I did manage, however, to make these Kissing Balls this morning.
Thanks to Kylie for finding me the very cheap doilies in her local oppy!
And, below, is Master 7's creative space! We discovered his "laser beams" the other night when we were going to tuck him in. He found a ball of wool in his toy box and went crazy with it - when he supposed to be going to sleep mind you!
More creative spaces here.

An engagement...

....ring.
This was my Grandmother's until my last birthday.
She gifted it to me to enjoy now, rather than - later.
She is 88 now, and this ring had been hers since the second world war.Whilst my "Pa" was away, fighting in WW2, they became engaged and he had some of his pay deducted each week and sent home to my Grandmother to buy an engagement ring.
Not long after she bought it, one of his best mates' had his head blown off.
He couldn't stand my Grandmother waiting for someone who may never come home, so he broke off the engagement.
He did come home. They did get married.
I was a blubbering mess when I opened her present.
It is one of the most special gifts I have received.
Do you have a special story about a special gift?

Guess who's coming for morning tea?

The cheese and chive scones are just out of the oven...
waiting the arrival of....
Can anyone guess?
The first person to guess correctly will receive a little something from me in the post!
Have fun, Kathryn. XX
19/02/10 Edited to add. Yes, it was Kylie from "A bite of country cupcakes".
The first person to guess correctly was Carol.
Carol, can you please send me your address details for your spot prize!
Thanks for having a go everyone!

Crazy, outrageous....stupid?

Inventions...
Last week we had one of those door to door catalogues dropped on our doorstep.
They are always good for a laugh so I flicked through the pages, and I was not let down!
I picked out, what I thought, were the two craziest inventions.
Check out these unreal slippers! Now, why didn't I think of this? "Achieve the perfect haircut everytime"......?
Really, I think not.
Has anything made you really laugh lately?

Lampshade revamp.....

As I mentioned yesterday I have had a lot of fun recovering a very boring old lampshade that I purchased at the oppy for $12.95 complete with base as well.
Before the cover was a satin back shantung in a yucky greeny goldy colour.
So, I set to work ripping off the old cover and replacing it with a gorgeous Laura Ashley print that I purchased from the USA last year. I have yards of this fabric (bought on ebay for an absolute bargain), so I will make some cushions to go with it too, eventually.

I began by making a template for each side with paper then I fussy cut out 6 bits of fabric, then glued them on with craft glue - I think it was the Spotlight brand - love it, very strong.
Then I added the braid along the side edges of the fabric first, then along the top and bottom to cover any raw edges.
I also added braid to the inside top and bottom to cover any bits of fabric and any mess from the previous cover! I think it turned out pretty well and for the sum of $40 including all fabric and braids etc...not bad at all!

Couch Potato.....

Now, this is what I needed last week when I was a couch potato and reading the "Twilight" books everyday! Our new lounge suite arrived yesterday after, what seemed like, a very long 3 month wait. We are so happy with how it all fits and goes with our colours. It is so squishy and comfy.
It is slowly coming together. Hubs finished the front of the fire place on the weekend too.
Now, if I can just get stuck into the painting and get it finished we could hang a few pictures too!
I have been working on this Matryoshka Doll Cushion recently too, to coincide with the pattern in Homespun. It will be available as a pattern from the website soon; that is when I get a chance to finish it, amongst everything else.
And, I have been working on a larger scale Doll too. I think I need to do the face again though as she seems to be a little "surprised" looking?
I finished recovering a lamp shade yesterday for an old lamp I picked up at the oppy for the bargain price on $12.95! I'll show you that one tomorrow.
Anyway, that's it for today.
Hope you all have a great day, Kathryn. XX

My apologies folks.....

For my absenteeism last week.
I swooned over the "Twilight" books all week and have watched the movie again TWICE!
I cannot tell you what Rob Pattinson has done to me, it would be very rude!

This week, however, I have to get back on board my normal routine.
The magazine hits news stands tomorrow and I am not sure what will happen.....?

So, I have made a few more dolls and I will be making some cushions today to re-stock the website. Unfortunately it has taken a back seat over the last few months.

O.K. ....back to it! Kathryn. XX

Consumed......

Consumed....utterly.
Besotted.

Intrigued.

Addicted.

Obsessed.
Love.

"Let's see what is all the fuss about?" I said to Hubs Sunday week ago......

Sunday, watched the movie....

Thursday, read "Twilight".

Saturday, read "New Moon".

Monday, finished "Eclipse".

Tuesday, chomping at the bit for "Breaking Dawn".
I need to hit the bookstore....now!

All of the above........ what took me so long?

P.S. I am on "Team Edward"
