Pussikins..something little boys will like....I hope!

I haven't made any "Pussikins" for absolutely ages!
(you can see the last lot here)
But, after thinking that I need to make a few things for boys, for my "Buninyong Makers Market" stall, I pulled out my pattern, sorted out a few boy-ish fabrics and began painting a few new faces. I am hoping that little boys will like these and like the "gross" tasty little morsels disappearing into their whiskery mouths!!!!! If you have boys, do you think they'd like them? My two love them, but is that just because "mummy made them"?

Make sure you bring your.....

........sunnies for this one!
I cut out the Burda Dress on the weekend and whipped this up today, just for something different.
The fabric is Kaffe Fassett's "Heraldic" and I bought it from here (when they had free shipping too) for a steal at $4.98 per yard! No-one loves a bargain more than me! (especially when this fabric is $26 per metre here)
I cut the larger size, a 14, and it fits so much better now, I don't feel like I have to breath in like the top I made (see below)
I'm not one for showing my upper arms so, I will probably wear it with a short sleeve cardigan.
I think it will be great for summer - can you tell that I have had enough of this cold weather?
This is the top. Yeah, a bit tight. I have made a skirt pattern from the bottom of the dress pattern too. I love the bias cut. I'll show you the results of that experiment later!

A Bit Mental......

Thanks for popping by.
Yes, things have been a bit mental round these here parts!!!
The sewing machine has been receiving a right old work out this week gearing up for the "Buninyong Makers Market" (September 11th) along with a few big orders for dolls and cushions. I think my productivity has increased with Hubs working from home too; not as much time wasting on the computer!!!!!
Anyway, here is a SMALL snippet of what I have been up to this week......
Another, very foofy, "Princess Cushion"
A plethora of Matryoshka Dolls

Some silhouette cushions, Vive la France!
Another "Princess Cushion", this is my favourite so far.
And these are some mini quilts in the making.
I had this idea for a while but just never got around to it.... until today.
They'd be a nice addition to any girls bedroom wall or big girls' office don't you think?
I hope things are going well with you all? I must check in on a few blogs that I have been neglecting lately!
Talk to you all soon, Kathryn. XX

The week that flew by.....

I don't normally post on the weekend but I find myself having to play catch up today. This week has just flown by at an alarming rate. Maybe because I've had Hubs home with me all week? This week was his first week working from home, for himself, he's his own boss with only himself to answer to. Gosh, he has been a happy camper this week!!!!!
I haven't seen him much, he is up one end of the house (upstairs too) and I am at the other end. We planned it that way and it's working out very well.....so far.
Anyway, what I have I been up to all week..? Well, I decided to give one of the Burda patterns (7798) a go with some cheap fabric. I made the top version instead of the dress. I do want to make the dress for summer but I thought I'd check the sizing first before I chop into 2.5metres of fabric!
This was the result and I love it, it is really cute. It is a little firm across the bust and I will increase the size for the dress. I made a 12 but I think a 14 would have been more comfy.
It has a fabric bias binding for the neck and armholes and lovely topstitching details along with a zipper down the back seam. It was really easy to make and quick!
"The Princess Cushion"
And I have been making things for the "Buninyong Makers Market" which is going ahead! Yeah for Buninyong. If you would like more information about the market or to enquire about having a stall you can contact Kylie from Blue Ginger Designs.
"The Handbag Doorstop"
loads of them!
And the Dolls seem to have multiplied as well!
Kylie will be starting a blog, to follow, about the market so when I have those details I'll post them up here too.
Thanks for popping by and hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Fabric and Patterns.......

I've been reading a few sewing blogs recently and have been inspired by some of these amazing women sewing their whole wardrobes for a year. I generally sew a lot of my own clothes, especially skirts, but a whole wardrobe! Any way, with Spotlight and Lincraft having huge fabric sales lately, I could not resist. And, Spotlight also had Burda patterns on sale for only $5.
So, all of the below came home with me last week.
The blue and pink silky fabrics I could not resist and at $6 per metre a bargain. I only bought a metre of each, to make 4 scarves, and I tried out the rolled hem on my overlocker too with great success!
The black skirt at the top, which isn't finished, is similar to the "Rebel Skirt" I made a couple of weeks ago with pleats all the way around. I topstitched the edge of the pleats so they "sit down". I love this one and I think I will wear it a lot, in Winter and Summer.
And the plaid skirt was a bit of a disaster. I had seen a skirt like this with the plaid on an angle and thought I would give it a go....well, I bought a metre (plenty to make a skirt) then cut the pattern in the wrong direction so then had to go and buy some more. Blah. So, a very cheap skirt turned into just a cheap skirt!!! Anyway, I wore it yesterday and it felt nice on.
So, what else happened last week? Master 9 was home most of last week with a tummy bug, Hubs has quit his job to work from home full time (which is wonderful; more family time, more time to himself and it's nice just having him around) and I have been making DOLLS!!!
Also, there is a whisper that Buninyong may be hosting a "Makers Market" in the near future. I will keep you posted on that one. Anyone interested in having a stall should contact Kylie at Blue Ginger Designs. Great for us Ballarat girls dont't you think?
Anyway, enough for today, on with some housework.....
